Aisle Runner

Count it. Move it. Never drop it. · Operation INVENTORY · 3 days suggested (1–7)

It's the end of the quarter. Every pallet in the building has to be counted by morning. Warehouses use indoor drones to scan inventory labels on high shelves and to move small items between stations. Indoors there's no GPS, so the drone relies on its own sensors — just like a CoDrone EDU uses its optical flow sensor to hold position.

Learning targets
  • ◆ I can fly in a narrow space without touching walls or shelves.
  • ◆ I can plan a route with a pickup and a drop-off.
  • ◆ I can explain how indoor drones navigate without GPS and how CoDrone EDU's optical flow sensor helps it hold position.

Crew roles
  • Pilot: Flies the aisles and the delivery run.
  • Mission Commander: Holds the pick list and calls the next bin or station.
  • Engineer / Safety Observer: Watches clearances and the forklift lane; calls STOP.

Simulator challenges

FlightCraft
Indoor Hold

Indoors, the drone holds position with downward sensors. Hold a 1 m hover between the racks and land on the shipping pad.

Mission Mayhem
Cycle Count

Fly the aisles and hold at each high bin until the label scan completes. Stay out of the forklift lane, then land at the dock.

Priority Part

Touch down at receiving to load a virtual part, fly the gates through the aisle, and touch down at shipping. Fast, clean and gentle.

Sensor Stop

Use the front range sensor: fly forward down the aisle until the wall is 50 cm away, hover to scan the end bin, then come back and land.

Aisle Flight

Fly down a narrow 'aisle' of boxes, turn at the end, and land on the shipping pad.

  • ☐ No contact with the aisle
  • ☐ Correct turn toward the pad
  • ☐ Landed on the pad
  • ☐ Commander called each move

Stop at the Wall (Sensor Lab)

Program the drone to fly toward a board and stop 50 cm away using the front range sensor.

  • ☐ Made and recorded a prediction
  • ☐ Measured the real stopping distance
  • ☐ Explained how the front range sensor works
  • ☐ Safe coded flight
Simulated vs. real

Barcode / RFID scanner (simulated): Hovering at a bin scans its inventory label in the simulation. Real CoDrone EDU: CoDrone EDU has no scanner. In class, the Commander reads the 'label' card under the hover point to confirm the count.

Parcel gripper (simulated): Touching down on the pickup pad loads a virtual parcel; touching down at shipping delivers it. Real CoDrone EDU: CoDrone EDU is not designed to carry payloads. Classroom deliveries are simulated by landing on the right station.

Mission conclusion
Count closed. Trucks loaded.

You counted the high bins, caught a mismatch, and moved the priority part without a scratch. Indoor drones do this every night in big warehouses — and they rely on the same kind of sensors your CoDrone EDU uses.
