Green Rows
Read the field. Help it grow. · Operation HARVEST · 3 days suggested (1–7)
Part of a test field is turning yellow, and nobody knows why yet. Farmers use drones to scout crops row by row and spot trouble — dry patches, pests, or nutrient problems — before it spreads. Your crew will fly low and steady along the rows and sample the trouble spots.
- ◆ I can fly a low, steady path at a set height.
- ◆ I can plan a row-by-row survey that covers the field efficiently.
- ◆ I can explain how farmers use drone data to make decisions.
- Pilot: Flies the rows at a steady height.
- Mission Commander: Plans the row order and logs each sample.
- Engineer / Safety Observer: Watches the battery, height and the pivot zone.
Simulator challenges
Hold a steady 1 m hover over the field for 3 seconds and land at the barn pad.
Fly it →Survey the test field row by row. Hold low over each sample point until the crop sensor reading completes, stay out of the irrigation pivot, and land at the barn.
Fly it →Program a three-row lawnmower survey with a sample hover at the end of each row, finishing on the barn pad.
Fly it →A storm is coming. Sample the two most at-risk rows before the wind builds, then land at the barn.
Fly it →Fly straight and level along a taped crop row at about 1 m and land at the barn.
- ☐ Stayed over the row the whole way
- ☐ Kept a steady height
- ☐ Landed on the barn pad
- ☐ Rotated roles with clear call-outs
Program the lawnmower survey and use the color sensors to read green/yellow/red 'plant health' cards.
- ☐ Survey plan covered every row
- ☐ Read and recorded color sensor data
- ☐ Compared sensor readings to the real cards and explained any mismatch
- ☐ Safe coded flight
Multispectral crop sensor (simulated): Hovering over a sample point reads plant health (simulated NDVI). Real CoDrone EDU: CoDrone EDU has no multispectral camera. Its two bottom color sensors can read colored cards — crews use green, yellow and red cards to stand in for healthy, stressed and failing plants.
You found the stressed rows, the dry patch and the pest damage — and the farmer can treat only what needs it. Less water, less spray, healthier crops.
